Paper Cut Link by Chartodileon Paper Cut Link by Chartodileon
Very manly looking link made of cut pieces of construction paper. I messed up on a few things, but I'm satisfied with the way it looks :) The whole thing was done on a black foam poster board. As you can see, I used the Skyward Sword art as reference. It's an amazing game!

Oh god, I compared it to the original artwork and it looks way off xD

I started this like 3 months ago, got half way and forgot about it. Then I found it a while ago and finished it up. I could've probably done the whole thing in just one day if I worked on it nonstop though :)

BALLIN'! Seriously, really impressive!
You should try making stencils like this! Your paper arts look like a similar process, and would look awesome spray painted on a shirt or something. Plus then you could walk around showing off both your hand painted shirts and hand painted shoes. :D

I've never thought of that! I could easily turn this into a stencil.. haha But spraypainted shirts? Do those work? O_O

Yeah, totally! You have to wash them with cold water though. Otherwise they fade really fast. <.<

The way I did it was actually pretty simple. I put the image in GIMP and maximized the contrast so it looked like this: [link]
I lightly drew on the poster board where the parts should be. And then I drew the outline of the parts again on the paper with the appropriate color (it's almost impossible to get it to align exactly with the image unless you trace), cut out the shape and glued it on. :)

YES CONSTRUCTION PAPER :~D
I actually started this like 3 months ago xD I just couldn't get myself to keep working on it because tbh, cutting out the pieces weren't very fun. But now I'm finished and I'm happy C:
I'll be making either Samus or Mario next, so expect to see it in like 5 months or so. LOL

This is more fabulous than Ghirahim himself.

I really love the way the shadows just melt into the background.

damn I need to make myself one of these... Did you just like, reference it by eye? Would it be easier to trace? can you trace onto card?

Thanks! :dummy: I appreciate always getting nice comments from you!

I put the image in gimp and increased the contrast to make the parts easy to separate.
No I didn't trace, I drew a rough outline of the parts on the poster board then again on the colored paper. =P

Oh no, I wasn't saying you traced it!

I was just thinking if I wanted to cheat... :shifty:

ohwaitnevermind that would involve printing on a large scale, right? Gah, sounds like a waste of ink. I shall try my hand... At manual papercutting! :plotting:

Well, I'm sure there are ways to work around it. You could use carbon paper or graphite paper to transfer the outlines! You would still need to draw or print out an up scaled version of the image though. xP

and omfg, the ad on dA refreshed and changed to one that had sound and it scared the hell out of me xD

Okay, I have no idea what carbon or graphite paper is. xD oh well~

I want to do the 2D scenes from Phantom hourglass, so I was thinking textured paper, or tissue paper mounted on normal paper... IDK. I think some experimentation is necessary. :la:

And omfg those ads are annoying! I swear once, I had 10 tabs open and one of them started talking about washing machines. I checked each and every tab 5 times - there was not a single ad in any of them. :stare:

If you ask me, the internet must be haunted. By the ghosts of washing machine salesmen.

Graphite and carbon paper makes it really easy to trace things. I actually might try them out on the next one I make x)

Oh man, if you do make them I can't wait to see! DOET :D
(LOL'd at the talking tabs xD)

I WEEL TRY.

I suppose if you didn't mind scratching your monitor, you could trace it straight from the screen...
